Can You Bring Candles on a Plane?

Solid candles are not liquid, so they are usually allowed. That is the rule. The practice is: some security trays will still have a conversation with you, especially if the jar looks like a cream. Tins travel easier than glass. Lids on. Wrapped so they do not grind the glass in a suitcase.

Hand luggage vs hold

Hold is the grown-up choice. Less argument, less chance of a smashed jar in the cabin rail. If you must carry on, put them in a clear bag only if someone asks — they are not toiletries, and stuffing them in with the 100ml bottles confuses everyone.

Do not fly with a half-burned candle full of soot and a loose lid. It looks filthy and it will smear. Finish it at home or bin the wax and take an empty souvenir glass if you must.

Coming to us

If you are flying into Inverness and driving to Ullapool, buy when you arrive. A tin in a rucksack will have a better day than a glass jar in an overhead locker. The range is on the shop — The Vikings, Fyrish, the coastal ones — and none of them need to go through a tray argument to smell like here.
