A vegan candle is plant wax, a plant or mineral wick, fragrance that does not use animal musks, and no beeswax “just in the blend”. A lot of “natural” candles fail the first test because they are proud of the beeswax. Beeswax is not vegan. Tallow is not vegan. Some stearic acid is animal. If the brand cannot say, assume it is not.
What we pour
Soy-coconut, cotton wick, landscape scents, no beeswax, no tallow. That is the line. We would rather a slightly fussy soy that needs a first pool than an easy animal fat. If you want beeswax, plenty of people make it well. It will not have our name on it.
Wick trim and a still room still apply. Vegan is not a burn setting. Soy, coconut, the jars themselves on the shop — try Skye if you want the island in a vegan tin.
